  • Bishop Curt E. Courtenay

      Overseeing Pastor

A brillantly creative business man and pastor to hundreds that comprise a diverse community of believers in Brooklyn, New York, Bishop Curt E. Courtenay entered pastoral ministry in May 2000 as the Senior Pastor of the Emmanuel Church of God.   Under his leadership, the Emmanuel Church of God with active ministries that focus on community outreach, worship and the arts, has become a model for the local church in the areas of liturgical dance, drama and the arts.

As CEO of Joshua Builders, a company he founded twenty-five years ago, Bishop Courtenay has become highly experienced in business management, financial planning, and organizational leadership. Also physically proficient in construction, with the ability to design, construct, and manage. His passion for building and restoring homes matches his love for people. His company has been the platform for young men to learn the trade and is credited with propelling many careers in the construction industry.  He is dedicated to empowering and nurturing all to be what God called them to be.

Bishop Courtenay, a product of the community in which he serves, was licensed as a minister in August 1995 under the Church of God of Cleveland, Tennesse. He previously served the Emmanuel Church of God as a Youth Pastor for over eight years.  As a choir director, worship leader and youth pastor, Bishop Courtenay has helped, counseled and encouraged many youth throughout the community, being efficient during critical moments of development.  Because of his rapport with old and young alike, he has been called a bridge builder between generations. Broadening his ministry, he became a certified chaplain and returned to school continuing his education in Biblical Studies at Logos Bible College. Bishop Courtenay, a member of PHIPA (The Potter’s House International Pastor’s Alliance), was ordained at the Potter’s House in September 2004, under the covering of Bishop T.D. Jakes, of Dallas, Texas.

Bishop Courtenay now provides spiritual oversight to other pastors and churches under ECCF (Emmanuel Christian Cultural Fellowship) which he founded in 2003 in pursuit of bringing balance to the body of Christ. Through this ministry he has shown dynamic leadership and counseling skills which positively impacts organizations and individuals domestically and internationally.

In 2010, Bishop Courtenay released his first book, "Balancing the Scales of Life."  He resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, Pastor Aracely Courtenay, and their three children, Gesai, Curt, Jr., and Kayris.
